1) COA MEMBER CHOSEN AS NEXT CMA PRESIDENT Congratulations to Dr. Brian Day of Vancouver, BC who will become President of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) in August 2007. Despite a last minute challenge from the convention floor by a fellow BC physician and the national controversy and media circus that followed, Dr. Day’s nomination was confirmed last weekend in Charlottetown during the CMA’s Annual Meeting. A pioneer in private health care delivery and co-owner of a private clinic in Vancouver, Dr. Day argues that competition from a private health system would eliminate the problem of unacceptable wait times for medical diagnosis and treatment in Canada. 2) STAY TUNED – 2007 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS COMING SOON! Get your research ready! The Call for Abstracts for the COA’s 2007 Annual Meeting will be opening in just a few short weeks. Once again this year, authors will be asked to submit their abstracts online through an easy to follow programme that will be available on the home page of the COA web site: www.coa-aco.org. An announcement will be e-mailed or faxed to members when the programme goes live. Please visit the web site next month for details. The 2007 COA Annual Meeting will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia from June 1 – 3. 3) UBC ORTHOPAEDIC RESEARCH DAY The University of British Columbia is holding its 2006 Research Day in Vancouver, BC on November 24, 2006. She will be leaving the COA on September 1 and will be sorely missed.
