1) THE COA IS MOVING! The COA office is moving to a new location on February 15, 2006. Our new address will be: 4150 St. Catherine Street West, Suite 360, Montreal, Quebec H3Z 1P4. The telephone, fax numbers and e mail addresses of all COA staff remain UNCHANGED. We’d ask all members to please update their files accordingly and to provide their office assistants with our new coordinates. 2) ANNUAL MEETING REGISTRATION IS OPEN Online registration for the 2006 COA Annual Meeting being held in Toronto Ontario from June 2-4 is now OPEN. Register using our user-friendly online system by visiting the COA web site: www.coa-aco.org. Click on the “Click here to learn more about the 61st COA Annual Meeting” banner on the homepage, then click on the “registration” link in the left menu. Here’s the link: http://www.coa-annual-meeting.org/MS/MS43/page.php?p=829 Early registration closes March 1 so we encourage all members to register TODAY to take advantage of our reduced early registration fees and to qualify for a fantastic trip for two to Las Vegas. Contest details can be found on the registration page mentioned above. 3) DEADLINE FOR RESEARCH AWARDS APPROACHING FAST The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation invites applications for grants and awards in the area of orthopaedic research. The deadline for applications is: J. Edouard Samson Award – February 15, 2006, All other awards – February 28, 2006. The grants and awards include: The J. Edouard Samson Award, the Robert B. Salter and Carroll A. Laurin awards and the Alexandra J. Kirkley Young Investigator Award. The total number of grants will depend on the success of the 2006 Hip Hip Hooray! event. Further information, including the Grant Application, is now posted to the Foundation web site, under Research & Grants > Apply for a Grant. Here’s the link: http://www.canorth.org/en/research/applyforgrant.asp. 4) BUILDING OUR SUPPORTER AND DONOR DATABASE Orthopaedic surgeons have helped the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation to raise almost $18 million for orthopaedic research, education and care through Hip Hip Hooray! As we plan the campaign’s 15th national anniversary, we need your help to build our base of supporters and donors to keep the campaign strong. New materials designed specifically to meet privacy and health protection legislation in Ontario and west to British Columbia are coming soon! The Foundation benefits orthopaedic patients with services like Ortho Connect, a peer support programme, and basic educational material that extends the quality care provided in hospitals and offices to the comfort of the patient’s own home. Even if you don’t personally participate or if there is no walk in your community, please support Hip Hip Hooray! by displaying the materials. 5) CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – CAOS MEETING The International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery is accepting abstracts for its 2006Annual Meeting being held from June 21-24, 2006 in Montreal, Quebec. The presentations selected from the submitted abstracts will focus on the latest research and development being done which will assist and greatly impact how clinically active orthopaedic surgeons can improve their technique and current practices. Abstracts must be received by February 13, 2006.
