1) LAST MONTH FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
Abstract submissions for the 2011 COA and CORS meeting in St. John's are being accepted until October 30.  We encourage all members to submit their research for podium and poster presentation at this exciting event.  Complete guidelines and instructions can be found at www.coaannualmeeting.org.  Click on '2011 Call for Abstracts' to submit your abstract by October 30th.  The Annual Meeting in St. John's will be held from July 7-9, 2011.  

2) DOWNLOAD OWN DATA CUT REPORT
The Own Data Cut report is now available from the CJRR Web-Based Data Submission and Reports Tool. Surgeon(s) and/or their designated Regular users can opt to download the surgeon's own data that was submitted to CJRR. The report is available in an Excel format. 

The request to access the Own Data Cut report is available on the welcome screen within the application. Detailed instructions are provided on how to complete the request. 

Surgeons who are currently not registered with CJRR Web-Based Data Submission and Reports Tool can contact CJRR at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   to obtain more information on accessing the Own Data Cut report. 

3) NEED A CAR IN ST. JOHN'S?
If you will require a vehicle during the COA Annual Meeting in St. John's, we suggest that you make your reservation as soon as possible.  Rental cars sell out very quickly in St. John's and we expect a large number of delegates at next year's event.  Visit the 'Travel and Hotel' area at www.coaannualmeeting.org and select the 'Getting There' option and scroll down to the bottom of the page to view a listing of car rental agencies in St. John's.  Here is a direct link

4) HOT TOPICS FEATURED IN THE FALL COA BULLETIN
Stay tuned for the Fall Edition of the COA Bulletin that will feature a must read article including candid, first-hand accounts from today's young surgeons and their experience looking for a job in Canada.  Two of this year's graduates will also contribute an article about what the new Royal College exam format was really like.  We will be recreating one of our exciting symposia from the Edmonton Annual Meeting on Evidence-based Medicine for Treatment of Tendon and Sports Medicine Injuries lead by Dr. Mark Glazebrook as well as a point-counterpoint debate on single- and double-bundle ACL reconstruction from Drs. Don Johnson and Freddie Fu.  Keep your eye on your mailbox for this thought-provoking edition! 

5) CALLING ALL RESEARCHERS!
The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation invites applications for:

The Canadian Orthopaedic Research Legacy Grant. 

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2010.

Member in the Spotlight

pascal_vendittolli

Pascal-André Vendittoli, M.D., MSc, FRCSC was nominated as the chairman of the COA's Exchange Fellowships Committee at the Association's recent Annual Meeting in Edmonton.  Dr. Vendittoli has been an active member on the Exchange Fellowships Committee for several years and has been a panelist, moderator and frequent presenter at COA Annual Meetings. He is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Montreal and Research Director of the Orthopaedic Division.  He has a busy elective practice focused on hip and knee arthroplasty.  Born and raised in Montreal, Dr. Vendittoli completed his medical degree and residency training at Laval University.  He went on to pursue subspecialty training in joint reconstruction in Melbourne, Australia as well as in Florence, Italy. He has been granted by the Quebec Government as clinical researcher since 2007.  His main research interest is in the evaluation of new technologies in hip and knee arthroplasty.  In 2009 his team received the John Charnley award for their research project comparing hip resurfacing to large diameter head THA.  

Dr Vendittoli's personal life is busy with his two young daughters, Iris and Camélia and his wife Amal.   

The Exchange Fellowships Committee overseas the selection of Canadian representatives for the COA's various travelling fellowships and supports continuing education of members through these opportunities. 

A different member of the COA will be highlighted in each edition of the Dispatch.
