Member in the Spotlight

Dr. Andrew Furey (St. Johns, NL) will be the Chair of the COA's Program Committee as of mid-June. Working with representatives of each of the orthopaedic subspecialties, Dr. Furey will coordinate the various scientific sessions that will make up the program of the 2011 COA Annual Meeting in St. John's, Newfoundland. He told us this about his plans for the program: "In addition to the spectacular scenic setting of the host city, the scientific component will be equally compelling. In these changing economic and political times, potential symposium topics will include the establishment and utility of benchmarks, and the importance of the influence of surgeons within government."
Born and raised in St. John's, Dr. Furey is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Memorial University where he completed his BSc, MD, and Masters of Clinical Epidemiology. He completed a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD before returning to St. John's with his wife Allison, and two daughters, Maggie and Rachael. The St. John's meeting will be held from July 7-9, 2011. By next summer, it will be well over 10 years that the COA visited the 'Rock' and we encourage all of our members to mark their calendars for this exciting event.
