4) CJRR - COMPARATIVE REPORTS RELEASED
CJRR has released its newest product, the Comparative Reports. The reports were developed with the CJRR Advisory Committee members as a pilot release in August 2010. The report is now being released, in a staged approach, to all actively participating surgeons who submit data to the CJRR.

The CJRR Comparative Reports are individual reports, made available only to the surgeon who performed the joint replacement procedures and submitted the data to the CJRR. The objective of the CJRR Comparative Reports is to provide surgeons with comparable indicators to support performance measurement and quality improvement of joint replacement procedures. The Comparative Reports also provide surgeons with an overview of the data they have submitted to CJRR for the reporting period.

The reports present indicators on hip and knee replacement procedures within four main dimensions: patient demographics, access, efficiency, and outcome. The indicators are presented at the individual surgeon level, as well as three aggregate levels for comparison: facility group, jurisdiction and the national level.

MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

t.wentzell_photo

Dr. Tracey Wentzell is a community surgeon who just recently started her orthopaedic practice in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador.  Specializing in sports injuries, Dr. Wentzell's clinical interests include shoulder arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction.  Born and raised in Portland Creek, Newfoundland and Labrador, she attended Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, a United World College, on full scholarship after her Grade XI year.  She then attended Mount Allison University where she was a CIAU Academic All Canadian Athlete for Women's Rugby; and she went on to obtain a joint MDCM/MBA degree from McGill University.  She was awarded the Dr. Joseph Shugar/Jewish General Hospital Prize in Orthopaedics at McGill.

Dr. Wentzell completed her residency at Dalhousie University; and her fellowship in sports medicine in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia under the tutelage of Dr. Doug LeGay.

The orthopaedic department in Corner Brook includes five orthopaedic surgeons and is at the heart of Western Newfoundland, a region known and loved by outdoor enthusiasts.  Dr. Wentzell's goal has always been to return to her home region and provide service to the people therein.  For her, the challenges of a rural practice are far outweighed by the rewards of being in the place and with the people that are near and dear to her heart.

Dr. Wentzell is going to be married in the summer of 2011 to her partner of 11 years, Dwayne Parsons.  The ceremony will be on the beach in her hometown of Portland Creek.
