The COF congratulates the following successful applicants for the 2003 COF research grants and awards:  

  1. Dr. Christine M. Alvarez, Vancouver (BC). The Robert B. Salter Award for her research project: "The Genotype-Phenotype Correlation of Hereditary Multiple Exostoses".
  2. Dr. Iris Weller, Toronto (ON). The Carroll A. Laurin Award for her research project: "Activities Following Total Knee Replacement - Which are Safe? – A Pilot Study."
  3. Dr. Pascal-André Vendittoli, Montreal (QC). The Young Investigator's Award for his research project: "Étude randomisée comparant l'analgésie locale et parentérale lors du remplacement articulaire du genou."
  4. Dr. Frank Beir, London (ON) for his research project: "Anabolic actions of C-type natriuretic peptide in the endochondral skeleton".
  5. Dr. Johnny T.C. Lau, Toronto (ON) for his research project: "A randomized controlled trial of 1st MTP joint arthrodesis compared to 1st MTP joint hemiarthroplasty in severe hallux rigidus".
  6. Dr. Tom Overend, London (ON) for his research project: "Upper body aerobic exercise in older adults following hip fracture".
  7. Dr. Richard M. Holtby, Toronto (ON) for his research project: "Arthroscopic versus Mini Open Repair of Full-Thickness Tear of the Rotator Cuff (A Prospective Randomized Study)".

The prestigious J. Edward Samson Award, recognizing the best orthopaedic research realized during the year at a Canadian Centre, has been awarded to Dr. Mohit Bhandari of Hamilton (ON).
