His close relative, Mr. Tom Jamieson of Toronto, gave a chronological history of Alfred's life.

A 100th birthday cake with candles was shared by all of the guests. Alfred responded with a short message, kind greetings and thanked all assembled guests.

From the medical community, Dr. Gerry Bristow, Associate Dean of Academics from the Manitoba Medical College, and Dr. Ihor I. Mayba, Archivist of the Manitoba Orthopaedic Society, were present. Dr. Mayba presented two books to Dr. Deacon: Bonesetters and Others, Pioneer Orthopaedic Surgeons and Manitoba Clinic, a 50 Year History.

Dr. Deacon graduated in medicine from the University of Manitoba in 1929 and took postgraduate surgery at Winnipeg's Children's Hospital and the Winnipeg General Hospital. He took orthopaedic training at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota from 1932 to 1935 and completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1935.
