Dr. Robert Noel (Bob) Lofthouse
December 25, 1917 - September 18, 2007
Passed away peacefully at Arbour Creek, Hamilton.
Beloved husband of Helen for 62 years. Devoted father of Lois (Don Marquardson), Jane (Al Permut), Ruth (Rogers Abbott), and Lynn (Doug Williams). Loving Grand-father to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his Father, The Rt. Rev. Joseph and Mother, Louisa, sister Margaret Comfort of Calgary, survived by his sister Mary Keeler of St. Catharines. Dr. Lofthouse was born in Kenora, Ontario. He graduated the University of Toronto in 1943 when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Bob was a founding member of the McGregor Clinic and practised orthopaedic surgery in Hamilton from 1951 until he retired in 1987. Dr. Lofthouse participated in the development and was Chief of the Orthopaedic Programme at McMaster University. Throughout his lengthy medical career, Bob received numerous awards including; the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal, Distinguished Service Award of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, the Hamilton Spectator Community Service Award for Science and Medicine, and the Outstanding Service Award of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association. After his retirement, Bob was an active member of the Canadian Male Orpheus Choir. Dr. Lofthouse was always a positive influence on his community and his family.
