The Lord of the Rings World Premiere
Starting February 2006, the world premiere of the stage production of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic trilogy The Lord of the Rings www.lotr.com arrives onstage at the Princess of Wales Theatre. With a thrilling score, spectacular design and featuring an ensemble of over 65 actors, singers and musicians, The Lord of the Rings is the biggest, most ambitious theatrical production ever staged. Live With Culture - celebrating Toronto’s culture
Live With Culture is a city-wide celebration of Toronto’s creativity. Toronto draws its cultural inspiration from around the world, shaping our city’s soul. Throughout 2006, Live With Culture showcases the vibrant and diverse cultural activities happening in the city each and every day. Hair
It is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and The Tribe is rebelling. American youth are screaming out against The Establishment, Vietnam, segregation and sexual rigidity. SoundaXis: festival of music
soundaXis is a city-wide festival celebrating music, architecture and acoustics that will transform Toronto into a playground of sound and space exploration. For 11 days the city will be alive with concerts, interdisciplinary installations, symposia, screenings and site-specific musical events. Participants include virtually all of Toronto’s new music presenters, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario College of Art and Design, Ryerson University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, York University, the Goethe Institute, and others. Blue Man Group
Best known for their theatrical productions which combine comedy, music and multi-media artistry to create a form of entertainment that is totally unique. Blue Man Group has also recorded two albums; the Grammy nominated Audio, and The Complex, which became the musical basis for The Complex Rock Tour and Blue Man Group’s live concert DVD. Recently Blue Man Group has branched out into musical scoring with their work on Barry Levinson’s “The Jury” and on the animated film, Robots. Shostakovich Ten -- Toronto Symphony Orchestra
To conclude our Shostakovich celebration, Andrey Boreyko is joined by Maxim Vengerov and Janine Jansen in the brilliant and gripping concertos for violin. The Tenth Symphony is arguably Shostakovich's greatest work, a eulogy to Stalin written at the beginning of a short-lived period of artistic freedom.
