Summer on the Mountains
Even before it was recognized as one of the world's best ski resorts, Whistler was a long-established summer retreat. When pioneers Myrtle and Alex Philip opened Rainbow Lodge, a summer fishing camp, in 1914, they launched Whistler into its enduring position as one of Canada's favourite summer destinations.

Today, thousands visit the resort to sightsee and hike on Whistler Mountain and explore alpine meadows bursting with colourful wildflowers or to ski and snowboard on Blackcomb's Horstman Glacier. Whistler is also a golfer's paradise, rated by Golf Digest as one of the "Top 20 Greatest Golf Destinations in the World" for its four championship courses set in one stunning destination. And the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is now widely regarded as the premier bike park in the world, with more than 45 trails from beginner to advanced, three skills centres and jump park areas to explore.

In summer, average daytime temperatures hover around 27°C (80°F) in Whistler, with cool, refreshing evenings marked by breathtaking sunsets. And Whistler's base elevation starts at just over 600 metres (2,000 feet), with a peak elevation ending at 2,182 metres (7,160 feet), so you can enjoy your mountain vacation without feeling the altitude.

The Village
Whistler Village grew from an innovative plan to create a town centre full of vitality and in visual harmony with its natural environment.

Then savour your evenings with local brews at a lively pub, quiet cocktails at a sophisticated lounge or quick sips between all-night dancing to a live band or DJ.

Wine aficionados find more excellent vintages than they expect with many of Whistler's restaurants offering impressive wine cellars that rival any in the world.

Shopping
Shopping in Whistler satisfies both the browser and the shopaholic, with more than 200 shops, boutiques and galleries in Whistler Village and Creekside. Find everything from those one-of-a-kind vacation mementos that you treasure forever to all of the everyday essentials and adventure gear you might need while you're here.

Spas
By its very nature, Whistler is the ultimate wellness retreat: fresh mountain air, award-winning cuisine, limitless outdoor activities - and a wide range of distinctive spa treatments to refresh and revitalize.

Whistler's many spas offer treatments from ancient methods to innovative techniques, including acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy.

After a hard day on the slopes, mountain bike or golf course, nurture your body with care from attentive professionals. Choose from massages, esthetic treatments, skin care, yoga, Pilates and much more.

Arts and Culture
While Whistler is known around the world as North America's premier resort destination for year-round outdoor adventure, it is also home to a vibrant arts and culture scene - and in January 2008, the federal government honoured Whistler with the designation of "Cultural Capital of Canada" for 2009.

A strong arts and culture community means there's always something exciting happening in the resort, including performing, literary and visual arts. From celebrations and festivals to international events, Whistler offers a unique and entertaining mountain culture, year-round.

Learn about the area's rich cultural history at the new Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, which celebrates the joint history of the local Squamish and Lil'wat First Nations through a unique glimpse into their stories, creative works and cultures, and at the Whistler Museum and Archives, scheduled to open in February 2009 with a new exhibit on "Whistler's Journey to 2010".

Whistler Conference Centre
The Whistler Conference Centre is the resort's signature group venue and one of the reasons Whistler is regarded as one of Canada's top meeting destinations.

Located right in the heart of the Village, the Whistler Conference Centre is central to all hotels, shops, spas and restaurants and regularly hosts a wide variety of special events, conferences and group meetings throughout the year.

This spacious, multifunctional facility features an elegant grand foyer and ballroom, diverse meeting spaces, spectacular views and enhanced telecommunications capabilities. And the catering services offer the very finest food and drink from regional fields and waters, providing guests with the freshest experience while respecting the environment.
