Medical and Scientific Review Committee:
expert advice on public and patient education
Dennis Jeanes
Special to the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation
The Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of its new Medical and Scientific Review Committee.
The Medical and Scientific Review Committee will bring formalized review to the Foundation's development of public and patient education materials. As its title indicates, the committee's chief function will be to review draft texts and illustrations for medical accuracy and ensure that they meet the needs of their intended audiences.
Made up of surgeons and other health care professionals, the committee members will work primarily on an independent basis to review materials in their particular field of expertise. The committee will meet twice a year via teleconference for a general review and discussion of the Foundation's education programmes and upcoming materials.
Formerly managed in an informal way, the creation of this committee establishes for the Foundation ready resources to ensure that current, helpful and relevant information is available to patients who need it. Recruiting for the committee began in April; watch for a list of members in a future Bulletin issue.
