A Change of Editors at the COA Bulletin
Dennis Jeanes Manager, Communications & Advocacy Canadian Orthopaedic Association
This issue of the COA Bulletin marks the departure of its Editor-in-Chief for the last eight years, Dr. Emil Schemitsch. Most readers would likely agree that, under Dr. Schemitsch's stewardship, the Bulletin has made great strides, and that its mix of editorial content is consistently relevant and useful. Certainly his successor does.
"I think Emil has done an incredible job of connecting with the go-to people in orthopaedics and then making sure that things get done on time," says Dr. John Antoniou, the Bulletin's current Scientific Editor. "His peers respect him because he's extremely hard-working and dedicated. And he knows when to be hands-on and when to delegate."
Long-time Managing Editor Cynthia Vezina notes that "if a quarterly publication like the Bulletin is to be taken seriously and have any kind of readership, it needs to have an editor who has a sure feel for what's important and what's interesting. Emil just has a knack for mixing hot topics with articles on issues that orthopaedic surgeons care about. It's been a great pleasure working with him."
Although he'll be open to feedback and suggestions from readers, Antoniou recognizes a winning formula when he sees one and plans to continue "building on our strengths. Emil has set the bar very high."
