Our new title: The Bone & Joint Journal, formerly known as JBJS (Br) Richard Villar, Editor-in-Chief
A new and important era dawns: 2013 sees The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (British Volume), our much trusted and reliable touchstone in orthopaedic literature, change name to 'The Bone & Joint Journal'. The transition, we trust, will be seamless. Many will recall the much-quoted verse in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.
Perhaps Shakespeare has said it all. The Journal will be the Journal, whatever it may be called. Founded by Sir Reginald Watson-Jones in 1948 and pioneered by many of the great names within our field, the Journal has formed a huge part of all our lives for many years. We have searched its pages for orthopaedic detail at all hours of the day and night, we have used it to help us study for our examinations and we have gained much pride when our papers have appeared between its covers.
Yet it is with equal pride that we welcome our new title, The Bone & Joint Journal, or BJJ. We think it will surprise you. Our aim has been to transform our treasured Journal so that you will barely see the join. At the Journal we are very excited by what is to come. The transition from one title to another is a great opportunity, particularly with a readership as loyal, as supportive, as intelligent and yet as demanding as the readers we have today. Your papers continue to pour in from all over the world, your suggestions for reviews are seemingly limitless, your ideas are original and your friendship acknowledged, welcomed and returned.
We hope you will enjoy this month's BJJ which contains world-class research from eight different countries including an instructional review on Arthroscopic hip-preservation surgery.1
